Clinical Advisor, Wound-Ostomy Nurse â€" Staff Education (Catholic Health): The Clinical Advisor, Wound-Ostomy Nurse is a registered nurse who specializes in the care of patients with wounds, ostomies, and/or continence disorders. Primary responsibilities are to direct, coordinate, and evaluate patient care in the area(s) of their expertise. Specific functions include consultation and education for patients and Catholic Health (CH) clinical staff. Supports nursing care management and collaborates with other multidisciplinary teams of health care providers to implement evidence based care, update clinical practice based on current research and changes in patient/ family needs. This nurse works collaboratively with the hospital nursing staff, the wound care center and other departments to promote a seamless transition of services. REPORTS TO:
Corporate Manager, Clinical Education with dotted line reporting to Physician Director of Wound Care Center and Vice Presidents of Patient Care Services

SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM):
Education

  • Current New York State RN License
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
  • MS in nursing or education preferred
  • Current BLS certification
  • Certification in wound/ostomy care preferred
(In lieu of certification, enrollment in a certification program and completion within 2 years will be accepted)
Experience
  • Three (3) years medical-surgical nursing experience
  • One (1) year of previous clinical nursing experience in caring for patients with abdominal stomas, draining wounds, fistulas and pressure ulcers.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years patient and/or nursing teaching experience
Knowledge, Skill and Ability · Strong Microsoft Office skill set
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills and leadership ability
  • Knowledge of current technology and products used in the treatment of wounds
  • Knowledge of D! epartment of Health regulations
  • Ability to provide direction and motivate workforce
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Travel between facilities required
  • Facility-specific weekend or evening hours may be required
  • May be required to transport educational materials
  • Outpatient ostomy visits at Wound Center
