Associate Dean, Academic Affairs (ADAA)
. Contained within one of the worldâs most renowned medical centers that include the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, the Mailman School of Public Health, the College of Dental Medicine, the School of Nursing is internationally known and clinically unrivaled with recognition for excellence in research and curricular advancements.
Reporting to the Dean, this newly created position serves as the Chief Academic Officer within the School of Nursing. As a member of the senior leadership team, the ADAA works closely with the schoolâs other Associate Deans to provide coordinated leadership of the school. The ADAA is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of outstanding programs of instruction for the Combined B.S. /M.S. Program (ETP) for non-nurse college graduates, Master of Science, and Doctor of Nursing Practice. The Ph.D. program resides within the Division of Scholarship and Research. The ADAA provides thought leadership and guidance to the faculty in the development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum. The ADAA ensures that the programs of instruction are appropriately resourced, and provides leadership and oversight to the operations that support the schoolâs programs of instruction. The ADAA will represent the school across the University and to the outside community on matters related to the programs of instruction. The ADAA will manage Program Directors for the DNP, MS, and ETP programs.
The School of Nursing (SON) under the energetic and thoughtful leadership of the new Dean, Bobbie Berkowitz, Ph.D., is embarking on an ambitious agenda to marry its strength in clinical practice and education with cutting-edge research to become the best nursing school in the United States. SON has an operating budget of $30 million and employs over 80 full-time faculty members and a number of part time clinical faculty. The School has an ongoing student body of approximately 600 and is accredited by Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The School recently launched the development of a new state-of-the-art facility. The new building will incorporate expansion, modernization and enhancement of the full nursing program, including a simulation and clinical skills center.
The successful candidate will possess a doctoral degree with experience equivalent to the rank of full professor. A demonstrated track record in nursing scholarship is vital. S/he will have had proven experience in graduate nursing education and progressive leadership responsibility in academic administration. A Demonstrated track record of attracting, managing, and mentoring colleagues and the ability to function as a member of a team both within the School of Nursing and across Columbia University Medical Center is a must. S/he will possess the ability to develop trust and to build strong collaborative working relationships with clinical and research faculty
