Registered School Nurse (This is a FT 11 month position)

Description: Columbia University is employing Registered School Nurse (This is a FT 11 month position) right now, this career will be placed in New York. Reporting to the Head of School and working closely with the Division Heads, the School Nurse serves as a liaison between school faculty, students, families, community and healthcare providers to advocate for health care and a healthy school environment. The school nurse will assess student health, provide interventions, develop and execute plans for care management, act as first responder, engage in public health functions such as disease surveillance, immunization compliance, and! health promotion/education. Major focus of the School Nurse i! s to care for chronic and acute illness, as well as injuries in the school setting, follow up with students and their families and advocate for further care/monitoring as needed. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: medication administration, record keeping, health care procedures, and the development of health care plans for students with asthma, anaphylaxis, type 1 diabetes, and mental health conditions. The school nurses work closely with the Medical Director and Social Worker, reporting health related updates to the Head of School. Successful candidates must possess the ability to guide families with wisdom, warmth and intelligence and the ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, parents and students and hold high professional standards.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Requires Current New York State RN License, Minimum 2 years recent medical exper! ience coupled with strong assessment skills, nursing degree from an accredited college or university
Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Experience as a nurse working with children, specifically in K-8, Ability to make each child and family feel that their health is a priority for the school
Preferred Qualifications
Fluency in Spanish a major advantage working with the School's students and families. Master's Degree Preferred. The successful candidate will be a self-starter capable of working with minimal oversight to solve problems or complete projects. Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must. Attention to detail, plus the ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of administrators, teachers and staff are essential.
