Descriptive Title: Teaching and Research Center Nurse II (2 F/T day positions) REF#: UH-S-1350-13-S

Budget Title: Registered Nurse State Classified Position

Department: Amb. Surg. Center State Line#: TBD

Grade: S! G-16 Campus: Stony Brook University Hospital

Status:
Required Qualifications: Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State and one year of post-licensure acute care* nursing experience. A Bachelor degree in Nursing may be substituted for one year of the experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Past experience in an ambulatory surgery setting. Past experience in pre-op/post op setting. Past ICU experience. Recovery room experience is preferred. ASPAN Certification preferred. Past experience with assisting anesthesia with surgical blocks a plus. Cross trained in the operating room a plus.

Brief Description of Duties: Consistent with the title. Responsibilities to include assessment and care of the preoperative and post operative patient to include patient surgical care needs. Ability to screen surgical patients, admit surgical patients and recover surgical patients and ha! ve experience in performing surgical procedures in an operating room. Cross training is desirable.

Other Duties: As assigned.

Special Notes: Shift: 2 full-time day positions - 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm flexible - Monday through Friday. Please note Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment.

Prior to start date , the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services (The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination), submit (3) written references, and provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Please be advised that failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

  • Acute Care is defined as medical services provided for illnesses that! are short-term (usually less than 30 days), intense, and have a relati! vely severe to very severe course, requiring knowledge and expertise in the vigilant monitoring of subtle changes in the patient's condition, as well as ability to quickly recognize and identify potential problems and conditions resulting from a previous disease.
