O.R. Surgical Control Desk Coordinator
The Operating Room Surgical Control Desk Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Perioperative Services and facilitates the day to day Operating Room schedule. The Coordinator and assists the Director and the Perioperative Supervisor in the efficient and effective utilization of the OR.
Control Desk Coordinator responsibilities include:
- Facilitate the daily operation of the Operating Room schedule
- Communicate and collabor! ate with OR office coordinator/scheduler
- Review the O! R schedule at least 5 days in advance with the Perioperative Supervisor, Medical Director, Service Line Coordinators, Anesthesia Department and Central Sterile Supervisor or Lead Technician.
- Actively make rounds in the OR, holding room and PACU to push the schedule and troubleshoot problems.
- Proactively communicate any changes to the room schedule with anesthesiologist/surgeon/nursing staff involved.
- Communicate and collaborate with the “charge†anesthesiologist to triage add on patients with urgent or emergent status.
- Make appropriate adjustments/recommendations to facilitate emergent/urgent cases.
- Incorporate and use the electronic tracking board to its full capacity.
- Communicate any schedule changes or room changes to surgeon, anesthesiologist, nurses and support staff as indicated.
- Provide direct supervision of the service line coordinators Monday through Friday
Knowledge of operating room policies, procedures and patient flow are essential. Knowledge of regulatory requirements relative to the OR required. Demonstrated interdisciplinary collaboration and teambuilding skills required. A commitment to continuing education specific to the specialty service required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must; knowledge of performance improvement and regulatory requirements. Demonstrated interdisciplinary collaboration and teambuilding skills required. Some direct patient care required.
BLS/ACLS or CPR/AED training required and accepted from only 2 organizations:
1. American Heart Association - BLS/ACLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program
2. American Red Cross - CPR/AE! D for the Professional Rescuer
