DUTIES:
DUTIES:
Physician Assistants in this role are accountable for providing specialty health care in the

Vascular Surgery

and/or follow-up care for this specific group of patients with emphasis on prevention, diagnosis, treatment,

surgery,

and promotion of optimal wellness. Patient information is obtained through the performance of a health status assessment that may include history and physical exam, and diagnostic studies. Using this information, a treatment plan is formulated, implemented, evaluated and communicated to other providers. Care is provided in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Physician Assistants assist during surgical procedures in

the Operating Room.

Physician Assistants work collaboratively with other members of the health care team and will be under the direct supervision of a
Vascular Surgeon.

Physician Assistants identify, analyze and resolve problems whose resolution results in the improvement of care to patients.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizenship

Citizen of the United States

Education:
BachelorÂ's degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); or graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelorÂ's degree in a health care occupation or health-related science or graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, regist! ered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration o! f approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years.

Certification:
Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Experience:
Grade 8

(Associate grade):
None beyond the basic requirement.

Grade 9

(Full grade):
Approximately 2 years of successful practice as a PA

or

a bachelorÂ's degree and approximately 1 year of practice

or

a masterÂ's degree.

Grade 11 (

Intermediate grade): Approximately 4 years of successful practice as a PA

or

a bachelorÂ's degree and approximately 3 years of practice

or

a masterÂ's degree and approximately 2 years of practice.

Grade 12

(Senior grade): Approximately 6 years of successful practice as a PA

or

a bachelorÂ's degree and approximately 5 years! of practice

or

a masterÂ's degree and approximately 4 years of practice.

English Language Proficiency:
Physician Assistants appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
