Responsibilities:
The OR Registered Nurse functions as the surgical team leader and is responsible for the assessment, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of age specific nursing care provided to patients during their perioperative experience. As the patient advocate, the OR nurse must possess a current, clinical knowledge base, including critical thinking skills, to guide patients safely, efficiently, and economically through their surgical experience. Additionally, the RN demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to each patient’s rights, physiological, psychological, cultural, spiritual, ethical and social needs.
The competent OR nurse should be able to! care for patients across the continuum within the perioperative setting, with primary focus as either a circulating nurse or a scrub nurse during surgical or invasive procedures. Those OR nurses identified as competent; may be also required to assist in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, or elsewhere within the department of surgical services, following established standards and practices. Utilizes the nursing process to implement patient care with attention to managing and coordinating patient care utilizing a multi-disciplinary health care team approach. All RN’s are responsible for taking call as assigned, and should be able to return to the hospital within 30 minutes of being called back in.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing, 1year medical/surgical experience or Equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
At least 1-2 years of OR experience required
Excellent inter! personal skills (written and verbal)
Basic Computer Skills
Critical Thinking skills. Can perform efficiently in emergency patient situations.
Knowledge of growth and development for specific age groups.
Knowledge of basic aseptic techniques
Required Certification/Registration:
BLS required
CNOR, ACLS, PALS recommended
