COLLEGE OF NURSING

SUNY Upstate Medical University College of Nursing, located in Syracuse, New York, is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Nursing. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field with a masters degree in nursing; a demonstrated history of scholarship that meets requirements for appointment at a senior level tenure-track position; a distinguished record of exemplary teaching, with at least 7 years of leadership and excellence in academic administration, research and grant acquisition; and have licensure or be eligible for licensure as a registered professional nurse in the state of New York. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Dean is the Chief Administrative Officer of the College of Nursing and has ultimate accountability for collaborative visionary leadership for the strategic development of the College of Nursing, its resources, programs and future directions. The Dean, through the faculty of the College of Nursing is responsible for implementation and evaluation of academic programs and policies, which meet the needs of a diverse and growing student population and the requirements of accrediting bodies. The Dean guides the recruitment, appointment, retention, evaluation, promotion and professional development of faculty and staff. The Dean develops and administers the budget and collaborates with the Office of the President, the Foundation and other funding sources to procure financial support for the College of Nursing, including the solicitation of individual and major gifts. The Dean collaborates with the other colleges within the university to advance inter-professional opportunities, and establishes professional partnerships with local, regional and international nursing and healthcare organizations and represents the College of Nursing to the University, profession and other external constituencies.

Ideally, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills; a collaborative management and leadership style that empowers faculty; evidence of successful networking and leveraging opportunities for inter-professional collaboration; an understanding of the regional needs of Central New York as they relate to the College of Nursing and the University; the ability to maintain and build collaborative partnerships with community colleges and associate degree programs; experience with successful fundraising and budget management; commitment to and knowledge of information technology and distance learning in nursing education; and advocacy for the initiatives described in the IOM Report, The Future of Nursing
