The Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint Program of the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene responsible for promoting the health of the 1.3million school children enrolled in approximately 1,800 public and non 'public schools in the New York City. Services to students include case management of chronic health problems, preventive health screening, urgent care, medication administration, preventive counseling. Health education, referral for care and assurance of ongoing effective treatment. OSH has been the provider of public health services in the schools for 100 years.
-- Act as a member of a health team in NYC public and non-public school.
-- Perform case-findings, issue referrals, and conduct follow-up in conjunction with audiovisual screening teams, doctors and other health providers in schools and the community.
-- Provide health education to students and staff in school.
-- Provide clinical health service when appropriate.
-- Advise families on proper health practices.
-- Establish contract and collaborate working relationship with school; administrators and community groups.
-- Maintain school health records.
-- Prepare monthly reports to be used by nursing supervisors.
Minimum Qual Requirements
Possession a valid New York State License as a Registered Nurse is required.
This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Preferred Skills
NOTE: For appointment to School Health, individuals must be able to perform Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Additional Information
Must follow all safety, security, Blood-borne pathogen exposure, infection control, and hazardous materials policies and procedures to assure a safe environment for staff and students. This includes using: personal protective wear, good hand hygiene, and adhering to sharps safety procedures.
