Assistant CIR, Child and Family Health

Description: ADMIN FOR CHILDREN'S SVCS is at the momment seeking for Assistant CIR, Child and Family Health right now, this job will be placed in New York. The Assistant Commissioner will report to the Deputy Commissioner for Family Support Services, with wide latitude for independent judgment. The As! sistant Commissioner will work closely with the Deputy Commissioner for Family Support Services and unit directors in the development and implementation of child health programs. Provide ongoing consultation in concert with the Director of Medical Programs for nurses providing case management and direct medical care. Evaluate requests for medical and psychiatric consents for treatment of children in foster and direct care. Interface with external agencies on health policy and program issues. Specific duties will include:

  • Provide case specific consultation on the following medical issues: “Do Not Resuscitate orders, organ donation, psychotropic medication, and enrollment in clinical trials.
  • Manage clinical contacts.
  • Interface with State, Federal and private external agencies on health, policy and program development, monitoring and compliance issues.
  • Ensure that the program areas are sufficiently staffed, trained and equipped to! perform their mandated responsibilities.
  • Oversee the! direction of the Office of Medical Programs. The Office of Medical Programs is responsible for the management of health care issues related to foster children and provides technical assistance to program operations that include medical performance reviews of foster care programs.
  • Oversee the direction of the Mental Health Program. The Mental Health Program programs provides mental health services to children in foster care and their families, which include but are not limited to mental health evaluations and mental health screening.
  • Oversee Child Protective staff, case specific consultation, training and referral in the areas of needs assessment, problem solving and services planning.
  • Oversee and provide ongoing consultation in concert with the Director of Medical Programs for nurses providing case management and direct medical care, developing and implementing strategies to enhance the understanding of medical and clinical issues within the chil! d welfare system and integrating medical and clinical services interventions and perspectives for improved case practice and outcomes.
Minimum Qual Requirements

1. Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York plus valid Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board in an approved medical specialty; and four years of medical practice including one year of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or

2. A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that listed in "1" above. However, all candidates must have a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York, and one year of medical practice in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

Preferred Skills

The preferred candidate will have experience in forensic medical examination; ability to work effectively across disciplines; knowledge of mental health conditions affecting children and ! adolescents; ability to work effectively across disciplines; superb com! munication skills and solid track record in program administration.
