Must have a minimum of 2 years nursing experience (see qualifications) DUTIES:

Full Time and Part Time Registered Nurse opportunities available in the Syracuse VAMC Emergency Department. As a Staff Nurse in the ED you will provide emergent/urgent care to acute and chronically ill Veterans. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Record patient's symptoms and document medical history

Obtain vital signs

Triage patient's condition and prioritize based on medical need

Establish effective communication with patient, family or representative
Document observations, assessments and changes in patient's condition
Administr! ation medications and place IV's
Collaborate with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes
Provide a full range of nursing care/treatment to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems;
Comply with protocols, procedures and safety policies
Maintain proper supplies and medical equipment
Perform other related duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U. S. citizenship

Full, unrestricted state nursing Licensure, Certification or Registration required.

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was c! ompleted by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting ! Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.

The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that
qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of
study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for
the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005,
Appendix G6)

Education/Experience Requirements:
Nurse I Level 3 -

Associates Degree or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years experience, or
Associate Degree or Diploma in nursing and bachelor's degree in related field plus 1-2 years experi! ence, or
BSN with 1-2 yeras experience, or
MSN or master's in related field with a BSN or bachelor's degree in a related field. If MSN obtained in a Bridge Program, no BSN required.

Nurse II -

BSN with approximately 2-3 years experience

AAS or Diploma in Nursing & Bachelor's Degree in a related field plus approximately 2-3 years experienc

Master's Degree in Nursing or related field with BSN or Bachelor's degree in a related field, 1-2 yrs. experience

If MSN obtained in a Bridge Program, no BSN required

Doctoral degree in nursing or meet basic requirements and has doctoral degree in a related field, no experience

Preferred Experience: Since nursing positions in the Emergency Department require a high level of nursing practice knowledge, skills and abilities applications from new graduates will not be considered for this position. You must have at least two years of professional nursing experience i! n ED, ICU or other complex nursing setting.

GRADE DETERMINA! TIONS:
Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.

VA Registered Nurses earn vacation time at the rate of 8 hours a pay periods. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year. You begin earning leave when you start employment, there's no waiting time before your leave can be used. In addition you earn 4 hours of sick leave a pay period.

Differentials - 10% evenings and nights, 25% weekends
